Functional Anatomy and Movement for Yoga asana

Functional Anatomy and Movement of Yoga Asana is created to bring out the most interesting and relevant elements of anatomy and apply it directly to the practice of Yoga Asana while keeping it simple and understandable. Here's the objectives of the course and what you will get from it:

1. How well integrated the body is and define the four components that allow, restrict and create movement in the body, namely the skeletal, muscular, connective tissue and nervous systems.

  • Basic language of movements
  • The principle of strength and flexibility
  • Nerve tensioning and stimulation of nerve reflexes for effective muscle activation
  • Types of stretching and their relation to nervous system

2. To simplify 250 joints and 650 muscles in the human body into 9 main joint-complexes and 15 pairs of opposing muscle-groups.

  • Learn about the 3 major Bandhas as well as the 6 lesser known Bandhas
  • The relationships between joint-complexes, muscle groups and nerve reflexes, and how they interact to generate Bandhas.
  • How to increase joint stability with the use of 9 Bandhas to reduce injury and promote circulation and healing.

3. To look past the most obvious and see the body as a moving skeleton.

  • Skeletal variation and why no two poses will look exactly alike.
  • Differentiating Tension and Compression, and what it means to you and your practice.
  • Analysis of the major joint-complexes and determining their ranges of motion, so you can look at a Yoga posture with an analytical eye.

The course is highly interactive and experiential. Not only will you learn more about your body, you might just discover your own brand of Yoga Asana. Come as you are and be prepared to walk away with much much more.
